You believe that you are a rational individual who has control over his thoughts, feelings and emotions. You take effective actions to achieve your goals. Yet, you don’t appear to be moving closer to what it is you so much desire. You are frustrated and at your wits end. And you wonder how you are going to survive the coming economic chaos. You even consider giving in to irrationally selfish behaviors. If things aren’t going to get any better—you feel that you might as well drink, smoke, drug it up or whatever supplies you with immediate satisfaction. Anyway, tomorrow won’t matter.

Been There – Done It

I certainly understand the appeal of irrationally selfish behavior. I have indulged in it myself. Sometimes I went the whole route and added a touch of altruism to the equation. I don’t think I have to go into all the gory details about the results I achieved from this type of behavior. All I can say is that I paid a heavy price for my unfortunate actions—I am still paying the piper. Fortunately out of my despair I rediscovered a gift—a gift of inestimable value.

As always, I returned to being a rationally selfish individual. Then I ventured farther along on the path and once again discovered the joys of the spiritual realm. I soared to a higher awareness.

Overcoming Alienation

Some Objectivists disdain anything that they can’t prove through deductive or inductive reasoning. And they definitely have a distaste for mysticism. Of course when it comes to social issues, resorting to mysticism results in all the disasters Ayn Rand describes in “Atlas Shrugged.” In fact, during the coming economic chaos Atlas may very well shrug.

When your libertarian beliefs of rational selfishness and unhampered capitalism seem anathema to the masses, it is easy to feel alienated from your fellow man. Alienation is a rather uncomfortable way to exist. Fortunately you can disagree with all the altruism and irrational selfishness that most seem to unfortunately endorse and practice—and still feel and believe you are one with the universe. How do you accomplish this?

Higher Awareness

I believe in becoming spiritually connected to all there is. I call this a universal connection. I’m not really in a position to tell you how to discover this or what it will mean to you. However I can reveal the best method for obtaining this higher state of awareness—a higher state of awareness that allows you to completely overcome obstacles, blocks and challenges. It is meditation. There are also other spiritual practices such as Yoga, Tae Kwon Do, Karate, etc. that are effective in helping you connect to the spiritual realm.

Spiritual practices guarantee that you reason more effectively and tap your intuitive powers. When you are connected with all there is—you experience the joy of your existence—to the max.

Conclusion

To survive and thrive during the coming economic chaos you must:

1. Shun the philosophy of social altruism and be very careful about practicing personal altruism in your personal affairs.

2. Definitely not indulge in irrational selfishness. It is detrimental to your well-being.

3. Be a rationally selfish individual.

4. Endorse the social system of unhampered capitalism.

5. Have control of your thoughts, feelings and emotions in order to be capable of taking effective actions.

6. Practice a spiritual discipline such as meditation. Achieving a state of higher awareness is necessary to maintain a healthy body, mind and spirit.
