Once again the time has come for Americans to go to the polls in an event which takes place every four years known as the “Primaries”. What are the primaries many non Americans may ask and what useful purpose if any do they serve? Well this is one of the issues discussed in this articles along with why I believe we should vote for a certain candidate.

Getting the perfect present for that somebody on our list is not as hard as it may seem but of coarse we should always take in to consideration that perfection takes on a different meaning in everybody’s mind. For instance there are those whose love for winter sports make them the perfect candidates to receive a lovely new pair of skis or poles however if I be the case then this would be the furthest thing from my desires as I do solemnly detest anything that may have the slightest connection with winter sports. This I say not with intension of offending those who ski or even winter sports as it maybe my foolishness that prevents me from enjoying them but with the aim of giving an example of how “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure”. Naturally this philosophy may also be applied to the female gender not only the males because in short what is perfect for one will not by necessity be perfect for another.

It all started last year during the fall. I had left my parents’ apartment on the upper west side of Central Park to go to the Metropolitan Opera when I saw the leaves on the trees turning color, all those leaves which had once been green were now drying up and showing themselves in a variety of colors. Brown, yellow, orange and red were the colors that served as a flag for this time of year. My senses also made me aware of a freshness in the air that had not been there for sometime.

Going somewhere for the first time is always an adventure for most people as there is something indescribable about being in a city for the first time, seeking out and finally getting to admire the sites that one might have previously become familiar with through TV or perhaps film. As for myself personally I get a sensational feeling that I am entering a new world every time I get off that train or airplane or what ever means of transportation I might have used to teleport me to that city which I am venturing to discover. That feeling is one that can perhaps be compared to seeing an opera for the first time where at first all we know is the name of the piece but when we read the synopsis and hear the music then that opera becomes more then a name of a piece written by a certain composer, it becomes much more then that, it becomes a living work of art capable of inspiring our imagination and perhaps even fantasy.

Luciano Pavarotti, arguably the greatest tenor of all times I am sad to say is no longer with us as it was yesterday that he passed away in his home in Modena, Italy at the age of 71. It was with tears that I reacted to the news when I woke this morning for he to me as well as the rest of the world’s opera society was an idol. To many he was an opera singer who they had heard of as being good but to us who can be classified as opera lovers this loss is monumental as that is the kind of talent his was. To keep things in perspective one could say that Pavarotti was an opera tenor in the same quality that Napoleon was a general or Maradona a football player or Jordan a basketball player or Sir John Gielgud an actor.
